Very
old grapes (70 to 90 years old) of Mencía give its character and features to
this Peique Selección Familiar 2006. It is a wine that gives a meaning to something
often said by Peique family: “You have to care a lot about a wine that takes
your surname; you need to feel proud of it”. Grown in the family owned
vineyards of Valtuille de Abajo (Bierzo region), at a height of more than 500 m
above sea level, the grapes are harvested manually. After 18 months ageing in
French oak barrels, the wine matures in bottles for at least 15 months more
before it is commercialized.
